Career mentorship involves taking a critical look at the knowledge, skills, attitudes and desires of interested individuals and helping them to make strategic decisions, based on personal career goals, towards becoming a pilot. Through support from OBAP’s Aerospace Professional Development Program Areas mentorships include:

  • Industry outlook
  • Timeline for participant’s entry and advancements criteria
  • Professional goals
  • Constraints on achieving goals
  • Educational requirements and goals

The participant’s personal behavior record is also reviewed. For example, a charge of intoxicated driving can condemn a pilot to general aviation flying for substantial amounts of time. Such charges can also restrict individuals from attaining licenses needed to pursue required qualifications for career advancement.

One of the most prudent approaches to considering becoming at pilot, at any level, is to visit your local airport and purchase an orientation flight. Sometimes, these flights are referred to as “discovery flights”. Quite often, discount coupons are available for these types of flights. Visit to attain additional information on these opportunities.

Once you have set your sights and goals on an exciting career in aviation, we invite you to contact the APDP team to seek career guidance and mentorship.  Mentorship is open to members of OBAP. To become a member click here!
